Interactive Audio-Visual Analysis – IAVA
Founded and Created by Sean Botha 2020/2021
IAVA is an interactive analysis model which offers a three-dimensional approach to music analysis in the 21st century, moving away from traditional music practices. IAVA was specifically created by Sean Botha during his PhD studies at Western Sydney University, between 2016 – 2020.
The model allows the musician and listener the freedom to interpret and perceive a piece of music through the lens of sound and “silence”.
Furthermore, the musician is given an opportunity to explore aspects such as texture in music through a collaborative and open-minded approach.

Sean is currently working on gradually introducing the model to tertiary education institutions in 2021 and actively working on raising awareness around the principles of listening and communication. For more information about the model and Sean’s research please contact him email.
