Breathe, Begin, One, Again

Five Planets features two main scientific domains, mathematics and cosmology. The track was inspired by the cosmological event of 18 June 2022. On this night the five bright planets – Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were not visible in the nightsky for a majority of the night. It was indicated by scientists that people had to wait until the second part of the night to see these planets come into view. Each planet came into view one by one just before sunrise and all five planets were stretched across the eastern and southern sky.

The music created here was inspired by these events and in addition prime numbers. The first 1:40” of the track evolves around the night sky without the planets in view. This explains the small sounds and represents a void so to speak. More sound is introduced at 1:50” to illustrate the planets slowly coming into view just before sunrise. The music ends abruptly at 4:10” which signifies perfect alignment of the planets and the remnants of sound coming from the double bass symbolises sunrise. The prime numbers are small features and can be found in the mixing of the track and the volume of each sound file.

150 Moons refer to the planet Saturn. This music video takes you into space.
The music features the guitar, a field drum, a granular kick, beat and other synth sounds. The piece was produced using Ableton Live. It is fast and light, exploring space. Close your eyes and allow the music to take you there. Enjoy every minute.

Rings Of Gravity feels like a mathematical exercise mixed with a soundscape and minimalist approaches. The music video takes you into space and the pull of gravity around you. The piece features the harp, guitar and multiple layers of rhythm and was definitely influenced by the work of composer Steve Reich.

$WARNING: SOME VIEWERS MAY FIND IMAGES IN THIS FILM DISTURBING The original intention was to create a layered piece of work which culminates into a wall of sound, instead I was advised to redirect the music in response to the war in the Ukraine. I am glad I made this piece, because it shows what I can make when commissioned or directed. The video offers an immersive visual experience for the listener. An Elegy For The Fallen Souls In Ukraine, was inspired by the work Threnody To The Victims of Hiroshima (created by Polish Composer, Krzysztof Penderecki). "An Elegy ..." features the Viola in the foreground which plays the main melody as a lament for the people of the Ukraine. - Two Cellos are used in the piece and represent movement, running and the sense of fear. - The Violin was intentionally used in a high register to illustrate pain, sorrow, grief and the fracturing/brokenness of a nation as a result of war. - The Double Bass represents a heart beat which is heard throughout this piece. - The Timpani is representative of the bombings and other forces used to gain advancement in a region, in this case Ukraine. Threnody... has an interesting history and was originally not meant for the purposes of illustrating the futility of war. This piece was intentionally made in support of the Ukraine, and its people.
